FLINT, Michigan — The annual Flint Neighborhood Summit is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Hunger Solution Center of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. The summit, now in its eight year, is asking all residents, neighborhood and community-based groups in and around Flint to come together and “Connect the Blocks.”
The free event, hosted by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s Neighborhoods Small Grants Program Advisory Committee, is meant to connect members of the community through the discussion of ideas while learning more about the focus of the 2019 grant program.
The unique program allows resources to be funneled into the hands of small, grassroots groups and encourages people within the community to become actively engaged in its health and well-being. The goal is to spark neighborhood revitalization and strengthen connections between neighborhood-based groups.
This year there are three different Neighborhoods Small Grants categories: traditional mini grants of $1,000, next-level mini grants of $5,000, and one transformational grant of $25,000. Program funding is not intended to support individuals, private business, religious, partisan politics, or for-profit activities.
A resource fair will also be held during the Summit with local community based organizations sharing their good works.
